The new Shopify storefront was designed to translate the tactile nature of fabric shopping into a premium digital experience. We developed a customized theme that balances high-resolution visual storytelling with high-performance utility. The UX focuses on reducing the "search-to-cart" time for a catalog featuring tens of thousands of unique SKUs, utilizing advanced filtering for weight, stretch, and fiber content.

Custom Pricing Logic, Full Data Migration, App Integrations & a Complex ERP Integration

Migrating from Magento required a surgical approach to data integrity. We successfully transitioned over a decade of customer history, complex product attributes, and order data into Shopify.

  • Counterpoint ERP Integration: Central to the project was a real-time, bi-directional sync with NCR Counterpoint. This ensures that inventory levels, gift cards, and customer profiles remain perfectly synchronized between their iconic NYC/LA physical stores and the global online flagship.

Shopify natively treats products as discrete units (integers), which doesn't align with the fabric industry’s need for fractional sales. We engineered a Custom Private App to handle fractional yardage pricing.

  • The Logic: Customers can input precise measurements (e.g., 2.5 yards), and the app calculates the real-time price while adjusting the backend inventory by the exact decimal amount, bypassing Shopify’s standard "quantity" limitations.

Transitioning to Shopify provided an opportunity to audit and "prune" the bloated extension library from Magento. We migrated essential loyalty, review, and marketing automation tools into the Shopify ecosystem, choosing "best-in-class" apps that offer better stability and faster loading times. This consolidation reduced third-party script bloat and unified the data flow within the Shopify Admin.

Standard color circles weren't enough for a brand that lives in texture and pattern. We built a Custom Swatches Private App that allows Mood to display high-resolution "Sibling" swatches.

  • The Difference: Unlike basic variant pickers, this app allows customers to see the intricate weave and drape of related fabrics directly on the collection and product pages, providing a visual "mood board" experience that is entirely unique to the Shopify store.

SEO Preservation & Optimization

To protect Mood Fabrics' massive organic footprint, we implemented a comprehensive SEO Migration Strategy.

  • 301 Redirect Mapping: We mapped every legacy Magento URL to its new Shopify equivalent to prevent 404 errors.
  • Optimization: We leveraged Shopify’s streamlined liquid structure to improve page speed—a key ranking factor—while optimizing meta-data and schema markup for "Rich Snippets" in Google Search results.

The Results

The migration from Magento to Shopify Plus transformed Mood Fabrics from a maintenance-heavy legacy environment into a high-performance, scalable commerce engine. By consolidating complex B2B and B2C logic into a streamlined Shopify architecture, we eliminated the technical debt that previously hindered rapid growth. The result was a unified commerce ecosystem where digital and physical storefronts operate in total synchronization through the custom Counterpoint ERP bridge.

The implementation of bespoke private apps solved the industry-specific challenge of fractional yardage, providing a frictionless checkout experience that wasn't possible on a "one-size-fits-all" platform. Post-launch, Mood Fabrics saw an immediate improvement in site reliability and mobile conversion rates, driven by a 40% faster page load speed and a vastly more intuitive UI. This digital transformation has not only preserved the brand’s iconic heritage but has future-proofed its operations for the next generation of creators.

By leveraging a customized Shopify Plus theme, we moved away from the cluttered interface of the legacy Magento site toward a "clean-canvas" aesthetic that prioritizes visual clarity. The design features a persistent, high-utility header and an expanded mega-menu, allowing users to navigate a catalog of tens of thousands of SKUs with minimal clicks. This structural shift ensures that the discovery process—from searching for a specific fiber to exploring seasonal collections—is both intuitive and visually immersive.

Central to the desktop experience is the integration of specialized tools that bridge the gap between physical and digital fabric sourcing. We implemented advanced sidebar filtering that allows for granular sorting by fabric weight, stretch percentage, and pattern scale, mirroring the way a designer would browse a physical showroom. On the Product Detail Pages (PDPs), the UI was optimized to support high-resolution zoom capabilities and the custom fractional yardage calculator, ensuring that technical specifications and "Buy It Now" actions remain above the fold. This sophisticated layout balances high-density information with a premium look and feel, resulting in a professional-grade shopping environment that enhances brand loyalty.

While the desktop experience focuses on a wide-screen "digital workspace," the mobile UI/UX design was engineered for high-speed, tactile interaction. The primary differentiator is the shift from expansive mega-menus to a streamlined, thumb-oriented navigation system. We replaced the dense desktop sidebar with a "tray-style" filtering interface that slides in from the bottom, allowing users to narrow down thousands of fabrics using only their thumb, which is essential for designers sourcing materials on-site or on the move.

The mobile interface also optimizes visual hierarchy to account for smaller screen real estate. On product pages, we prioritized the custom fractional yardage input and the "Add to Cart" button, ensuring they remain sticky or "above the fold" to reduce scrolling fatigue. Unlike the desktop version, which allows for hover-states to see detail, the mobile site utilizes high-performance touch gestures and optimized image carousels that allow users to swipe through high-resolution swatches with zero lag. This "Mobile-First" logic ensures that the complexity of the fabric catalog is distilled into a fast, frictionless, and incredibly responsive handheld experience.
