Lancer Skincare is the premier Beverly Hills-based skincare brand by world-renowned celebrity dermatologist Dr. Harold Lancer. Believing that skincare could do more, Dr. Lancer set out to develop his own line of products, and in 1985 The Lancer Method was born. The Lancer Method: Polish, Cleanse, and Nourish is the heart of Dr. Lancer’s skincare assortment and the first regimen he recommends to all new patients and Lancer Skincare customers alike. Since the inception of The Method, Dr. Lancer has successfully brought to life his philosophy of “From Practice To Product,” developing a full range of award-winning, at-home products that simulate the services provided to clients at the Lancer Dermatology Clinic in Beverly Hills.

The Lancer Skincare website reflects the brand’s luxury and expertise but faces critical challenges in delivering a seamless online experience. Built on the Magento platform, the website relies on numerous plugins and external developers, leading to inefficiencies and difficulty in maintaining consistent updates. Despite showcasing a comprehensive product catalog and advanced skincare regimens, the site struggles with slow load times, complex navigation, and a fragmented user experience. Addressing these issues through a migration to Shopify Plus is a pivotal step in aligning the website with the brand’s commitment to innovation and excellence. This transition aimed to deliver faster site speeds, a simplified UX, and greater transparency in eCommerce data, enhancing both operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

The Challenge

The challenges faced by Lancer Skincare stemmed from their reliance on a complex and fragmented setup that hindered efficiency and growth. Their existing Magento platform, supported by numerous plugins, an external development team, and an A/B testing agency, posed significant limitations. These included lack of transparency in order and eCommerce data, slow site performance, and a disjointed user experience (UX). Additionally, the dependence on external developers for routine tasks—such as homepage updates, product launches, and landing page development—created bottlenecks and increased operational costs.

To address these challenges, Lancer Skincare aimed to transition to Shopify Plus, a more flexible and transparent platform. Key objectives included improving conversion rates and site speed, unifying the UX for a seamless customer journey, and reducing reliance on external support by empowering internal teams to manage updates and content more efficiently. This strategic shift was designed to streamline operations, enhance customer satisfaction, and support scalable growth.

The Solution

Our partnership with Lancer Skincare commenced with an understanding of their unique needs and goals. In optimizing their site and overall customer experience, we achieved the following milestones:

Enhance Conversion Rates (CVR) on Product and Landing Pages: Redesign Product Detail Pages (PDPs) and landing pages to focus on clear, compelling calls to action, optimized layouts, and user-centric designs. This will streamline the decision-making process, making it easier for customers to find and purchase products, ultimately driving higher conversions.

Boost Site Speed for Better User Experience: Improve page load times across the site to align with industry best practices, ensuring quick and seamless navigation. A faster site improves customer satisfaction, reduces bounce rates, and positively impacts overall conversion rates.

Optimize the Cart Experience for Consumer Expectations: Redesign the cart to reflect consumer best practices by simplifying the checkout process, integrating features like free shipping thresholds and clear product summaries, and ensuring a frictionless path to purchase.

Develop Flexible Templates for PDPs and Landing Pages: Create customizable templates for product and landing pages that balance flexibility with adherence to design and UX best practices. These templates will allow the internal team to use a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor for content updates, reducing reliance on developers while maintaining brand consistency.

Integrate Measurement and CRM/CSR Tools for Deeper Insights: Strengthen the website’s integration with analytics tools, CRM systems, and CSR platforms to gain a more robust understanding of consumer behavior and preferences. These insights will help prioritize products, refine marketing strategies, and enhance the ability to grow customer lifetime value (CLTV).

SEO Traffic Boost: We implemented a comprehensive SEO strategy for Lancer Skincare, ensuring every element was optimized for discoverability and flexibility. Alt image tags, canonical URLs, title tags, meta tags, and meta descriptions were automated for efficiency yet fully customizable at all page levels and types, providing the team with the control to fine-tune SEO elements for maximum impact. Canonical URLs were generated automatically based on H1 tags to maintain consistency but could be edited to address specific SEO strategies or campaign needs.
